Mikage granite, Steel
In Shikoku, where I have my studio, the granite is called Aji. It is particularly prized for tombstones and dedications because it is the most permanent, thus the most expensive. The word for granite in Japan is “Mikage,” which is also the granite that comes from Rokko-san, across the Inland Sea. The latter is no longer available.
