Thanatos was originally made of Cor-ten steel. My dissatisfaction with this medium then led me to hot-dip galvanize it. This was done some time after my move to Long Island City in 1961. The Nelson Galvanizing Company was around the corner from my studio, and this is probably what led to my interest in that technology.
