Artists at Noguchi | A Performance by Stephen Lichty

Saturday, October 24, 2015 - 6:00pm

The Noguchi Museum has commissioned a new performance by Stephen Lichty on the occasion of its first museum-wide exhibition, Museum of Stones, in which Lichty is exhibiting an untitled sculpture combining stone and gesture. The performance will take place in the Museum’s floating galleries (Areas 9/10) amid a selection of scholars’ rocks and paintings of rocks on loan from the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Department of Asian Art.

Within the contemplative context of the scholars’ rocks, the artist will perform a solo movement composition in the round, exploring the concept of wholeness and the process of individuation. By folding latent forces and phenomena into consciousness and the performance, the artist hopes to engender new sensitivities to dance, architecture, geology, and landscape.

Stephen Lichty (b. 1983) lives and works in Brooklyn. He is represented by Foxy Production, NY.
