Tsukubai

1964
Granite, Water
“Tsukubai” are the traditional hollowed stones into which water trickles. They are used in a Japanese garden as both visual and aural objects of pleasure. The “tsukubai” here is my modern version, made by machine tool and lacking that quality of age and wear so appreciated in Japan.
