Design/Build Workshop for Adults at Socrates Sculpture Park: Lamp Part I

Learn skills that combine art, engineering, design, and construction, while taking inspiration from Noguchi’s sculpture and design work. Join Socrates instructor Luz Fleming and educators from The Noguchi Museum in Socrates Sculpture Park’s outdoor studio as they guide you to create simple yet well-crafted furnishings for your home. Each project begins with an introduction at The Noguchi Museum and is followed by two consecutive workshops at Socrates. Please note that advanced registration is required.

Join us for a day of kite making at Socrates Sculpture Park.

 

Using recycled materials, children and families will build kites exploring themes of flight, freedom, and community and then fly them in the park.

 

Kite Flight is a free event presented by Socrates Sculpture Park and The Noguchi Museum. Please note that workshop space is limited and participation will be on a first come, first serve basis. Advanced registration is not required.

In the fall of 2013, juniors in the Fashion Department at Pratt were introduced to Isamu Noguchi's collaborations with the avant-garde dancer/choreographer Ruth Page, for whom he created two royal blue, wool jersey sack dresses in 1932 to pose and dance in: wearable artworks that transformed her into a piece of kinetic sculpture. Still in the process of learning how to turn their interests into invention, the students then spent time at The Noguchi Museum in search of inspiration. Each student developed a garment in response to something they found.
