Yuka C. Honda is a Japanese composer, musician and producer residing in New York City. She is best known for the band Cibo Matto, which she co-founded with Miho Hatori in 1994. Her recent project Revert to Sea, inspired by one of Honda’s favorite books, “Coin Locker Babies,” written by the Japanese writer Ryu Murakami in the 1980s, is a new work in collaboration with Nels Cline (Wilco), Alex Cline, and Zeena Parkins where the musicians showcase the entire spectrum of sound.

Innov Gnawa is a young musical collective dedicated to exploring Morocco’s venerable gnawa music tradition in the heart of New York City. Formed in the summer of 2014 by Moroccan expat Samir LanGus, the group draws on the considerable talents and expertise of Hassan Ben Jaafer, a Maâlem, a master gnawa musician, originally from Fes, Morocco.

In celebration of the exhibition of Noguchi’s two sculptures Birth (1934) and Death (1934) together in the same gallery for the first time, The Noguchi Museum presents The Rhythm Method String Quartet featuring Alice Teyssier in a program entitled The Once and Future Maiden. In the same way that Noguchi sought a lifelong balance between figuration and abstraction, the various compositional voices on this program deal with fragmented portraits of women in life and death.

On September 11, the Argus String Quartet & Friends will play a concert featuring the music of Martin Bresnick, in honor of the composer’s 70th birthday. Bresnick’s expressive and direct music has influenced a generation of composers, including many Bang on a Can regulars. The program is fancifully titled "Homeward bound with a lawyer-horse, mice, and a worker who reads," and will include his Going Home, String Quartet #2 (Bucephalus), Josephine the Singer, and Songs of the Mouse People.
